The history of the Dutch Radio Show SYMFOMANIA Rock Show

Hi all,

For years ago, I was very interested in Symphonic, Melodic and Progressive Rock!

During more than 45 years I enjoyed the beautiful music of great bands from the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90’s as Vanilla Fudge, Genesis, Marillion, IQ, Pallas, Pendragon, Pink Floyd, Yes, Porcupine Tree, Aphrodites Child and others…

But in my own country there was no radio show with my favourite music. In the beginning of the 90s, I had an idea: my own music show at a radio station! But the problem was how to realise this excellent idea. To make a long story short: after contacting the local radio station, called Nieuwegein-Radio, I got an opportunity and in September 1994 the show Symfomania (so called: Late Night Symfo) started for only 1 hour a week.

Symfomania Rock Show was in the first 10 years a great but small success with the following highlights: in every show many new cd’s, regular interviews (with bands as Marillion, IQ, Pallas, Porcupine Tree, Landmarq, Everon, Ayreon, Jadis, Pendragon, Collage a.s.o.), sometimes some gigs in the radio studio, lots of fans on his website etc.

In December 2003 Nieuwegein-Radio was closing down and I was a little bit disappointed…but there was (again) good news: the Dutch radio station Radio Seagull was interested in Symfomania Rock Show.

In July 2004, Symfomania Rock Show had a new start at www.radioseagull.com and is still going strong ! Every Sunday morning from 08:00 till 10:00 hrs CET and every Sunday evening from 20:00 till 22:00 hrs CET. The show is also broadcast at http:// poprockfm.com in The Netherlands / Turkey. Every week 2 hours of great Progressive & Symphonic Rock on these radiostations.
